👩‍👧 Single-parent families – High concentration in LaSalle Heights

The LaSalle Centre-Ouest (39%) and LaSalle Heights (44%) sectors have rates of single-parent families well above the Montreal average (31%). In the other sectors, the proportions are closer to the citywide rate. Overall, LaSalle has 4,145 single-parent families, two-thirds of whom live in LaSalle-Nord (1,535 families) and LaSalle Centre-Ouest (1,190 families).

📍 Poverty – Slightly below the Montréal average

10 % of the neighbourhood’s population (8,340 people) lives on a low income, a rate slightly below that of Montréal (11%). However, the LaSalle Heights (11%), LaSalle Centre-Ouest (12%), and LaSalle-Nord (12%) sectors post higher rates. The largest low-income population is found in LaSalle-Nord (3,580 people), the most populated sector of the neighbourhood.

✏️ Low education levels (no high school diploma) – Slightly higher than average

The share of adults aged 25 to 64 without a high school diploma stands at 11%, compared to 9% across Montreal. The highest rates are in LaSalle Centre-Ouest (15%) and LaSalle Heights (22%). Two-thirds of the neighbourhood’s 4,735 undereducated adults live in LaSalle Centre-Ouest (1,500 people) and LaSalle-Nord (1,720 people).

🌎 Immigrant population and non-permanent residents – A welcoming neighbourhood

Immigrants make up 35% of LaSalle’s population (28,330 people), a rate slightly above the Montréal average (33%). The LaSalle Centre-Ouest (37%), LaSalle-Nord (41%), and LaSalle Heights (52%) sectors stand out in particular. Nearly half of the neighbourhood’s immigrants live in LaSalle-Nord (13,130 people). LaSalle is also among Montreal’s main settlement areas for asylum seekers, with 2,040 individuals, ranking fifth on the island.

👨🏾‍🤝‍👨🏼 Diversity – Strongly represented

Nearly half of LaSalle residents (45%, or 35,870 people) belong to visible minority groups, a rate higher than Montreal’s overall average (38%). The proportions are higher in LaSalle Centre-Ouest (51%), LaSalle-Nord (54%), and LaSalle Heights (55%). Half of the neighbourhood’s visible minority population lives in LaSalle-Nord (17,180 people).
