Pierrette Gélineau

April 2003

Pierrette Gélineau has been promoting the cause of children and families since the early 1970s. She is head of development and founder of the Maison des Enfants de l'île de Montréal, a children's centre. The Maison was established in 1988 in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, a district where 55% of the population lives under the low-income threshold.

Thanks to her leadership, determination, dedication and boundless affection for children, the Maison des enfants has continuously expanded its activities and interventions over the years. It now receives between 100 and 200 kids every week, replies to 10,000 letters from children every year, and serves 23 schools. The Maison is supported by an impressive network of 200 volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life who are committed to promoting the well-being of children.

Centraide has supported the Maison des enfants de l'île de Montréal since 1989.
Pierrette Gélineau is the winner of the Gilles Cousineau Award 2003.
