In the heart of Montreal, many seniors face very real daily challenges such as financial insecurity, social isolation and even food insecurity. Faced with these sometimes heavy realities, Action Centre-Ville stands as a true beacon of compassion and solidarity. The agency reaches out to these seniors, offering them a listening ear, support, and above all, a place where they feel seen, heard, and valued.

True to its name, Action Centre-Ville is rooted in the centre of the city and at the heart of the lives of hundreds of people aged 50 and over. Through a wide range of services and activities, the agency promotes the overall well-being of seniors—supporting the body, the mind, and the heart.

Every day, the team and volunteers take concrete actions: delivering a hot meal, troubleshooting a computer issue, providing foot care, adjusting a piece of clothing, or helping complete an income tax return. Behind these simple gestures lie meaningful encounters and moments of comfort.

Members of Action Centre-Ville also enjoy low-cost activities, shared meals, cultural outings, and discounted tickets—but above all, they are part of a vibrant community. A community where people move, learn, laugh, and continue to build precious connections.

Thanks to Action Centre-Ville’s commitment, seniors can not only meet their essential needs but also rediscover the desire to fully participate in life, in an atmosphere of respect, warmth, and friendship.

Tangible impacts on the lives of seniors

Hélène Laviolette, Co-Executive Director of Action Centre-Ville, shares the example of Mr. Robert, who struggled with mobility issues: “He discovered the living environment we offer and started taking part in activities, especially bean-bag games. His doctor told him that it was thanks to his regular activity at Action Centre-Ville that he now has a better quality of life.”

The role of community partners is also crucial in making such impacts possible. “Centraide’s support for our mission is truly essential for Action Centre-Ville,” notes Hélène Laviolette.

“It is thanks to this support that we can be here, listening to people, helping seniors to grow, flourish, and continue to be part of the community.” – Hélène Laviolette

At a time when many seniors can find themselves isolated and vulnerable due to social or economic challenges, the existence of a place like Action Centre-Ville fosters engagement and participation in community life, helping break isolation and maintain a sense of belonging.

During the launch of Centraide’s 2025 campaign, the Executive Director of Action Centre-Ville visited our offices to present the agency. In this video, she highlights the tangible impact of Centraide’s support for seniors living in the downtown area.
