📍 Population – strong growth and high proportion of families

Between 2016 and 2021, Saint-Amable (+10%) and Contrecœur (+20%) experienced strong population growth, above that of the MRC overall (+4%) and the South Shore average (+6%). The MRC de Marguerite-D’Youville also has a high share of families (41%, compared with 37% for the South Shore).

Ten percent of adults aged 25–64 (2,995 people) do not have a high school diploma, the same share as the South Shore average (10%). Rates vary strongly across municipalities: 6% in Sainte-Julie and up to 19% in Saint-Amable, which also has the largest number of adults without a high school diploma (1,430 people).

🌎 Diversity and immigration – low but growing

The MRC has a small share of immigrants (5%) and visible minority residents (5%) compared with the South Shore overall (15% and 16%). Between 2016 and 2021, the immigrant population grew by 47% and the population belonging to visible minority groups grew by 72%.
