In the West Island of Montreal, away from major roads, in an old stone building by the Rivi\u00e8re des Prairies, there is a truly unique shelter for people experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a part of Montreal where resources for people experiencing homelessness were nearly nonexistent, Ricochet<\/strong> created a one-of-a-kind shelter. As the first and only inclusive mixed-gender shelter in the region, it opens its doors day and night to 70 people who find more than just a roof over their heads: three hot meals a day, psychosocial support, and a safe space to envision a new beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This haven of peace welcomes individuals in extreme vulnerability\u2014men and women who, due to life\u2019s hardships, have lost everything and found themselves on the streets.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Every day, a shuttle connects the shelter to essential resources, making it easier for residents to access healthcare and appointments. With a dedicated program for women survivors of violence, housing support, and a specialized addiction program, Ricochet tailors its services to meet the needs of those seeking refuge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But its impact goes beyond the walls of the shelter. Through social mediation and activities that promote inclusion, Ricochet builds bridges between its beneficiaries and the community, fostering balance and harmonious coexistence. In a region that long lacked alternatives, it restores to these men and women what was taken from them: a place in society, a renewed sense of dignity, and, most importantly, hope for a better future.<\/a><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2025, Centraide awarded the Solidaires Social Relevance<\/strong> to Ricochet for its essential commitment to people facing hardship in the West Island. In an area often perceived as sheltered from poverty, the agency has identified and responded to the growing needs of vulnerable individuals, particularly in the context of the housing crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through its attentive listening, adaptability, and concrete actions for inclusion, Ricochet has not only provided vital support but also raised awareness in the community about the realities of homelessness, fostering harmonious coexistence and long-term reintegration.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
