Quebec is going through a housing crisis that is producing human tragedy. Vulnerable people in particular are struggling in the face of higher and higher rents for housing that is increasingly hard to come by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Comit\u00e9 logement Rive-Sud is a key source of information and support for tenants who find themselves in hard situations. \u201cThe housing crisis has many impacts, but the main problems are the lack of available housing and the exponential increase in rents,\u201d says Marco Monzo, the agency\u2019s executive director. More than an economic problem, this crisis has real human consequences and has created a great deal of fear and uncertainty. \u201cPeople call us above all to get answers and solutions,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Comit\u00e9 logement Rive-Sud works directly with tenants to provide practical and legal assistance. For example, if someone is having trouble writing a formal notice, the agency\u2019s team can help them through the process and draw up the necessary documents. The agency also puts tenants in touch with lawyers and other professionals who can support them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helping tenants impact public policy<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In addition to providing individual assistance, the agency plays a key role in getting tenants involved in public debates so that their voices can influence the public policies and regulations that directly affect them. \u201cTenants must play an active role in transforming their communities,\u201d states the agency, which is working to ensure that public decision-makers are more mindful of housing issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
