In this article, we take a look back to explore these changes as well as the ongoing support that Centraide has provided to help families adapt to new realities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-little-title\"><strong><strong>Vulnerable families: A priority then and now<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Supporting families has always been a key focus for Centraide. Since 1990 it has significantly grown its investments in this sector, which receives some of its highest allocations every year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agencies supported by Centraide focus on prevention and on empowering families and implementing ways to break the cycle of poverty. More and more women have entered the workforce, while men have become more active in raising children and taking care of household chores. Family size has also decreased over time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More and more same-sex couples are having children, and immigration has given rise to greater diversity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If we also include extended, single-parent and blended structures, all of these changes mean that families look very different now.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:40%\">\n<h2 had fallen to 77%.  <\/span>\n<\/p>\n              \n<div class=\"numobj__number-col\">\n  <span class=\"numobj__number-col__inner\">\n    <span class=\"numobj__number\">16%<\/span>\n    <span all families in 1961, <br>this figure had doubled to 16% by 2021.\u00a0  <\/span>\n<\/p>\n              \n<div class=\"numobj__number-col\">\n  <span class=\"numobj__number-col__inner\">\n    <span challenges<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Families now face many and varied challenges that reflect the diversity of today\u2019s family models.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Striking a healthy work-family balance is not always easy, and work responsibilities often keep parents from being more involved in the lives of their children and teenagers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Single parents face particular struggles to cope with parenting and financial responsibilities without the support of a partner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Blended families also have to navigate complex dynamics. 2SLGBTQIA+ families may have to deal with persistent prejudice.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Family life can also become difficult, especially for women, when care is necessary for an elderly parent or a child with a disability or mental health issue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Newcomer families need to adapt to new cultural and language environments and must often do so far from their traditional support networks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The high cost of living, the housing crisis, and limited access to daycare can be heavy burdens for many families, especially those with low While economic indicators such as median household income have improved, low-income families continue to face major challenges, highlighting that inequality can persist despite global improvement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex centres or community agencies that provide a homey place for families to come together to spend time.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With firm roots in their communities, these agencies are true collective spaces for local families. RVP, Centraide of Greater Montreal, the SHERPA University Institute, and the Table de concertation au service des personnes r\u00e9fugi\u00e9es et immigrantes (TCRI) carried out a pilot project with four community agencies that support immigrant families in Greater Montreal. The Minist\u00e8re de l\u2019Immigration, de la Francisation et de l\u2019Int\u00e9gration then joined the project so that it could be rolled out across Quebec.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cBy the end of 2025, 55 Quebec community agencies that support immigrant families will have received help to adapt their practices to the realities of immigrant fathers. Without Centraide\u2019s support, they would not have access to vacations outside the city, with all the physical and mental benefits that these experiences provide.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For children, these camps are a unique chance to discover new things, explore outdoor activities, and develop personal and social skills in a safe and stimulating environment.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For families, they strengthen bonds through shared activities and fun times.
