Among seniors, this percentage increases to 31% (184,420 people). The situation is even more severe on the Island of Montreal, where over 50% of seniors live alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many have nowhere to go to celebrate the season. People without a family network or who are far from their loved ones will feel their solitude even more during this time of year. Those with mental health issues will also tend to be more vulnerable and see their anxiety or depression symptoms worsen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many community agencies supported by Centraide strive to break social isolation. Thanks to extra funding generated by our annual campaign, Centraide is supporting 12 more homeless agencies on top of the ones that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centraide-mtl.org\/en\/directory-of-agencies-and-projects\/\">it supports on a recurring basis<\/a>. These new agencies include three <strong>shelters<\/strong> and <strong>warming centres<\/strong> in the downtown area, two of which are specifically for the Indigenous population. During this time, the <strong>211 phone line<\/strong> is the main referral point that directs people to crisis lines or other community resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many seniors\u2019 agencies, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centraide-mtl.org\/en\/directory-of-agencies-and-projects\/projet-changement-centre-communautaire-pour-aines\/\" data-type=\"organization\" data-id=\"7254\">Projet changement<\/a> in the Plateau-Mont-Royal, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centraide-mtl.org\/en\/directory-of-agencies-and-projects\/centre-communautaire-des-ainees-et-aines-de-longueuil\/\" data-type=\"organization\" data-id=\"7463\">Centre Communautaire des A\u00een\u00e9es et A\u00een\u00e9s de Longueuil<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centraide-mtl.org\/en\/directory-of-agencies-and-projects\/centre-multi-ressources-de-lachine\/\" data-type=\"organization\" data-id=\"7482\">Centre Multi-Ressources de Lachine<\/a><strong> <\/strong>will be taking the lead to ensure the well-being of vulnerable seniors.
