Except for Sainte-Genevi\u00e8ve (31%), where the proportion aligns with the Montreal average, other northern sectors stand out for their strong presence of families with children, making up nearly half of all households. The proportion of children aged 0&nbsp;to&nbsp;17 is also higher in the north (21%) than in Montreal (19%). In absolute numbers, Pierrefonds-Roxboro has the largest child population (14,860&nbsp;children).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong>\ud83d\udc75<\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>People living alone and seniors living solo \u2013 less common than in Montreal, except in Sainte-Genevi\u00e8ve<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>9% of residents and 23% of seniors live alone in the north of the West Island, significantly lower than the Montreal averages (19% and 37%, respectively). However, Sainte-Genevi\u00e8ve stands out as the only sector in the entire West Island north where the rate of people living alone (22%) exceeds the Montreal average. Among seniors, this rate rises to 47%, compared with 37% in Montreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\">Across the north of the West Island, where 7,665&nbsp;low-income residents live, only Sainte-Genevi\u00e8ve has a rate above the Montreal average (13% vs. 11%). In the three other northern sectors, rates range from 5% to 6%. Pierrefonds-Roxboro is home to 56% of all low-income residents in the north of the West Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong>\ud83c\udf0e <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Immigrant population \u2013 preferred settlement area in the north of the West Island<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>39% of the population in the north of the West Island is immigrant (53,205&nbsp;people), a rate higher than both the Montreal average (33%) and that of the south of the West Island (27%,&nbsp;or 26,475&nbsp;people). Dollard-des-Ormeaux (40%) and Pierrefonds-Roxboro (41%) have the highest rates, with nearly 91% of the north\u2019s immigrants living in these two areas. The north of the West Island is characterized by long-established immigration: a large proportion of immigrants have been living in Canada for more than five years. The Sainte-Genevi\u00e8ve neighborhood, however, stands out with a higher share of recent arrivals: 23% of immigrants there have been in Canada for less than five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong><strong>\ud83d\udc68\ud83c\udffe\u200d\ud83e\udd1d\u200d\ud83d\udc68\ud83c\udffc<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Diversity \u2013 notable in the north, especially in Pierrefonds-Roxboro<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>44% of residents in the north of the West Island (59,190&nbsp;people) belong to a visible minority group, a rate well above the Montreal average (38%).
