In Villeray-Est, the proportions of children (17%) and seniors (14%) are slightly higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong>\ud83d\udc69\u200d\ud83d\udc67<\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Single-parent families \u2013 more prevalent in Villeray-Est<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>35% of families in Villeray-Est are headed by a single parent (1,005&nbsp;families), above the Montreal average (31%). Other sectors show lower rates: 29% in Villeray-Ouest and 30% in Villeray-Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong>\ud83d\udc74<\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>People living alone and seniors living solo \u2013 strong presence<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>The rate of people living alone in the neighborhood is higher than the Montreal average (24% vs. 19%), particularly in Villeray-Centre (28%). Seniors in all sectors of Villeray are more likely to live alone than in Montreal overall, notably in Villeray-Centre, where more than half (56%) do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>\ud83d\udccd<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Poverty \u2013 comparable to the Montreal average<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>11% of the neighborhood\u2019s population (6,525&nbsp;people) live on low income, a rate equivalent to Montreal. Villeray-Est has both the highest rate (13%) and the largest number of low-income residents (2,800).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong>\u270f\ufe0f<\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Low educational attainment (without a high school diploma) \u2013 below Montreal average except in Villeray-Est<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>7% of adults aged 25&nbsp;to&nbsp;64 lack a high school diploma, compared with 9% in Montreal. The highest rate is in Villeray-Est (11%).
