The proportion of seniors (11%) is considerably lower than in Montreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong>\ud83d\udc69\u200d\ud83d\udc67<\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Single-parent families \u2013 significant presence<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>42% of families are single-parent, one of the highest rates on the island and well above the Montreal average (31%), representing 830 families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>\ud83d\udc74<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong>People living alone \u2013 particularly common among seniors<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>24% of residents (3,615 people) live alone, a proportion higher than in Montreal (19%). Among seniors, this rate reaches one in two (52% versus 37% in Montreal), one of the highest on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>\ud83d\udccd<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong>Poverty and gentrification \u2013 contrasting portrait<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>12% of the population, or 1,740 people, have low income. The neighbourhood is experiencing strong gentrification: nearly one in five residents (18%) is now among the wealthiest 20% in Greater Montreal, which explains the sharp decrease in low-income residents (-57% over five years) and contributes to high inequality. The low-income rate among single-parent families (21%) is one of the highest on the island, while that of two-parent families (3%) is among the lowest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>\u270f\ufe0f<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Youth graduation \u2013 significant challenge<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>Although few in number, high school students face major challenges in graduation. Their graduation rate, one of the lowest on the island, was 71% in 2023, well below the Montreal average (84%). Pointe-Saint-Charles, like several Southwest Montreal neighbourhoods, has graduation rates below the city average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong>\ud83c\udfe2<\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Housing \u2013 highest proportion of subsidized housing on the island<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>One-third (33%) of the neighbourhood\u2019s housing is subsidized, representing the highest rate in Montreal, well above the city average (8%).
