This sector accounts for 40% of all people living alone in the neighborhood. Saint-Raymond\u2013West Haven (38%) and Walkley (36%) also have single-parent family rates above the Montreal average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong>\ud83d\udccd<\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Poverty \u2013 concentrated in specific sectors<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>The neighborhood\u2019s low-income rate is slightly above the Montreal average (13% versus 11%), but particularly high in Saint-Raymond\u2013West Haven (18%) and Walkley (14%). Two-thirds of the 8,770 low-income residents in the neighborhood live in these two sectors (3,765 in Saint-Raymond\u2013West Haven and 2,170 in Walkley).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>\ud83c\udf0e<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> Immigrant population \u2013 strong presence in Saint-Raymond\u2013West Haven and Walkley<\/strong><br><br>67% of the neighborhood\u2019s 4,535 new arrivals (in Canada for five years or less) live in Saint-Raymond\u2013West Haven (1,710 people) or Walkley (1,310 people). Saint-Raymond\u2013West Haven is home to 2,550 non-permanent residents, making it a key settlement area in NDG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>\ud83d\udc68\ud83c\udffe\u200d\ud83e\udd1d\u200d\ud83d\udc68\ud83c\udffc<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Diversity \u2013 high in certain sectors<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>26,605 people belong to visible minority groups, representing 40% of the neighborhood\u2019s population (versus 38% in Montreal). In Walkley (52%) and Saint-Raymond\u2013West Haven (50%), about one in two residents belongs to a visible minority group. These sectors also have the largest numbers of visible minority residents: 8,040 in Walkley and 10,220 in Saint-Raymond\u2013West Haven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>\ud83d\udcac<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong>French language knowledge \u2013 lower in certain sectors<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>The share of residents reporting knowledge of French fell from 76% in 2016 to 74% in 2021.
