In this sector, 25% of the population lives alone, including half of the seniors (52%). Longue-Pointe (38%) and Guybourg (39\u202f%) also stand out with single-parent family rates above the Montreal average (31%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong>\ud83d\udccd<\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Poverty \u2013 comparable to the Montreal average<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>Mercier-Ouest is home to 4,105 low-income residents, half of whom live in Longue-Pointe. The neighborhood\u2019s low-income rate is 10%, slightly below the Montreal average, but equivalent to the city average in Guybourg (11%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong>\u270f\ufe0f<\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Low educational attainment (without a high school diploma) \u2013 slightly above average<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>Among adults aged 25 to 64, 11% do not have a high school diploma, compared with 9% in Montreal. Longue-Pointe (11%) and Guybourg (12%) have the highest rates in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>\ud83c\udf0e<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong><strong><strong>Immigrant population and non-permanent residents \u2013 a welcoming neighborhood in the borough<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>29% of the population (12,495 people) are immigrants, below the Montreal average (33%). Nevertheless, Mercier-Ouest remains an important area of arrival within the borough, notably for non-permanent residents, who number 2,235, including one-third (735 people) asylum seekers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-background-color has-background\"><strong><strong>\ud83c\udfe2<\/strong> <strong><strong>Housing \u2013 lower cost but very limited availability<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><br><br>The average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in the neighborhood is $881 (2024), well below the Montreal average ($1,145).
