{"id":22931,"date":"2020-04-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-04-10T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.centraide-mtl.org\/media-news\/32m-already-allocated-239-agencies\/"},"modified":"2021-05-17T14:54:57","modified_gmt":"2021-05-17T18:54:57","slug":"32m-already-allocated-239-agencies","status":"publish","type":"medianews","link":"https:\/\/www.centraide-mtl.org\/en\/media\/32m-already-allocated-239-agencies\/","title":{"rendered":"$3.2M already allocated to 239 agencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<h4><span data-contrast=\"none\">Centraide of Greater Montreal: $3.2M already allocated\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">to help 239 agencies cope with the crisis<\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<p><strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Montreal, April 10, 2020 \u2014<\/span><\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Since the launch of its\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.centraide-mtl.org\/en\/covid-19-response\/centraide-covid-19-emergency-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\"><span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">COVID-19 Emergency Fund<\/span><\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0on March 25<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, Centraide of Greater Montreal has been helping front-line community agencies cope with the crisis by giving them resources and tools to take quick action on the ground to support vulnerable people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Centraide is constantly working to meet growing needs that are unprecedented and has sped up the fund disbursement process to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">handle<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0funding requests from agencies as soon as possible while<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0validating their relevance and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0avoiding duplicates.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Existing or adapted services supported by the fund must come from agencies that are currently accredited\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">by an official body\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">a\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">provincial ministry, RMC, city, public health body, etc.)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0or by Centraide of Greater Montr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">al<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. The requested money must go toward\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">supporting\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">basic necessities (food distribution, preparation and distribution of meals and baskets, etc.) or reinforc<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0listening and assistance services for vulnerable people, such as seniors, people with mental health problems, the homeless, and family caregivers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">No fewer than 430 requests from agencies have been received so far, and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.centraide-mtl.org\/en\/covid-19-response\/centraide-covid-19-emergency-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\"><span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">239 have been approved<\/span><\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0for a total of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">$3.2M<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0in allocations that continue to grow<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<p><strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Profile of current\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">major needs<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Thanks to the Emergency Fund, agencies are finding new ways to respond to growing requests for help in these circumstances. To get food to people at home, the food chain has had to be reconfigured.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Some a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">gencies have replaced their collective cooking routines with frozen meal activities for home deliveries. Other<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0have set up new call services for isolated seniors.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Isolation<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">, anxiety, and job losses mean that listening and assistance services for vulnerable people are experiencing high volumes.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">For example, the\u00a0<\/span>211 referral\u00a0service for people who need support is currently receiving\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"none\">four\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">times more calls than usual. Requests for food assistance, and particularly home deliveries, are still the main reason that people call. People are also calling about health, housing and emergency shelters, as well as employment and income. The 211 service is available in the 82 municipalities of the\u00a0<\/span>Communaut\u00e9\u00a0m\u00e9tropolitaine\u00a0de Montr\u00e9al (CMM), which represents half of Quebec\u2019s population. It also serves the Quebec City region.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe health crisis from the COVID-19 pandemic has upended\u00a0<\/span>Montrealers\u2019 daily lives, yet it has also given rise to a wave of solidarity that is incredibly inspiring. Thanks to\u00a0Centraide\u2019s\u00a0work and expertise, an Emergency Fund was set up\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"auto\">quickly\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and has already allocated significant funding to agencies that help the most vulnerable members of our society. The\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ity of Montr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00e9<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">al and its boroughs are proud of our $1.32M\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">contribution<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to the fund, and we thank all donors who continue to support Centraide. Together, we can make sure no one is left behind,\u201d stated Montr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00e9<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">al Mayor Val\u00e9rie Plante.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both;\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe 211 line\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">does essential work.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">supporting<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0disadvantaged people<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span>\u00a0<span data-contrast=\"auto\">it\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">helps us identify service gaps that need to be filled quickly.
