Profiles of volunteers

Juliette Noël

In 2006, the Antoinette Robidoux Award, which recognizes outstanding social commitment on the part of a volunteer who is working or has worked in a Centraide supported agency, went to Juliette Noël, a volunteer at Projet communautaire de Pierrefonds.

For many years, this highly committed woman in her seventies has been giving over 1,000 hours of volunteer work to three community agencies and one hospital on the West-Island. In addition to actively participating in activities, Juliette Noël is always available to listen to, support and comfort people who are alone or sick, as well as the families in her community. She is a woman of remarkable generosity who gives of herself without expecting anything in return.

The Projet Communautaire de Pierrefonds fosters the development of young children, academic success for youth, and the involvement of parents and families from Pierrefonds and Sainte-Geneviève. It also facilitates the social integration of immigrant families. Centraide has supported this agency since 2004.

Claude Caron and Lucille Girard

The 2005 Antoinette Robidoux Award which recognizes outstanding social commitment on the part of a volunteer who is working or has worked in a Centraide supported agency, went to Claude Caron, a founding member of L'Antre-Temps Longueuil. As well, an Honourable Mention in this category was awarded to Lucille Girard, co-founder of the Maison des grands-parents de Villeray. Both recipients serve on the board of directors of their respective agencies.

Claude Caron, a social worker and visual impairment rehabilitation officer by profession, founded L'Antre-Temps Longueuil in 1985. Since then, he has dedicated himself to seeking funding and recognition for this agency, which offers food and shelter to distressed young people between the ages of 16 and 21. Thanks to the exceptional involvement and initiative of this husband, father and volunteer, 5,000 young people have been able to extricate themselves from street-life and find their place in society. A leading promoter of social change among youth, Claude Caron is a model of caring and generosity who is committed to helping the less fortunate members of our society.

Lucille Girard
is co-founder of the Maison des grands-parents de Villeray, a "grandparents" centre which offers seniors the opportunity to participate in socio-familial activities and to develop ties with the members of younger generations. A mother of eleven, this great-hearted woman has always demonstrated her empathy by offering support and comfort to those around her. As an active volunteer with many community agencies in the Villeray district since 1975, she has demonstrated outstanding leadership in bringing together people from different cultural communities, and in promoting intergenerational ties based on caring and reciprocity. Lucille Girard has also frequently acted as an advocate for the cause of seniors in the media and at conferences.
