Mario Di Bernardo, RBC Royal Bank

Winner of the 2018 Solidaires Citizen Involvement

Mr. Mario Di Bernardo has served as the Centraide employee campaign director at RBC Royal Bank since 2016 and as ambassador on the campaign committee since 2002. Recognized by his colleagues for his dedication and ability to get people involved, Mr. Di Bernardo established an effective campaign structure. Since becoming part of the Centraide campaign, dozens of ambassadors have been recruited from the bank’s branches and offices, and their number has doubled. Online donations from employees have also increased every year.

Very accessible and highly involved in all Centraide fundraising activities, Mr. Di Bernardo launched the RBC soccer challenge in 2012 that gets 200 employees from different departments out on the field. He is also involved in the Centraide Cup as a soccer coach and coordinator. In 2014 and 2015, he co-chaired the RBC Challenge, a relay race up the stairs of Place Ville Marie, which raised $350,000 in 2017. In 2016, he started a project to sell red Centraide bracelets at all RBC branches. In addition to reaching out to as many donors as possible, this project also raised visibility for the cause among RBC’s clients. Mario Di Bernardo’s leadership and big heart helped to not only increase RBC's campaign results but also raise Centraide’s profile in the community.

The Solidaires Citizen Involvement is awarded to a workplace campaign committee, an employee and/or Leadership campaign director, an ambassador, or a volunteer who has shown exceptional commitment to a Centraide campaign.
