NDG Community Council
Since being founded in 1948, the NDG Community Council has been a leader in neighbourhood community development.
Some of the projects and initiatives that have been developed over 75 years include:
- The NDG Food Depot
- The Benny Farm buildings
- The Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Library
- The NDG Senior Citizens' Council
- LogisAction Notre-Dame-de-Grâce
- Bienvenue à Notre-Dame-de-Grâce
The creation of Bienvenue à NDG – a community organization that supports the integration of new immigrants – truly demonstrates the transformative role that the Community Council plays.
When the Council learned of the closure of an organization that had been offering services to immigrants in the area for over 15 years, they quickly called upon various partners including residents, boroughs, schools, school boards, etc. to get a better idea of the needs of newcomers in the neighbourhood, and the best resources to tend to them. Bienvenue à NDG was then created thanks to the various parties involved.
This branch of the Community Council quickly became its own entity. It still has strong ties to the council, with whom they share their not only their premises, but also their knowledge and know-how. The collaboration between the various services is at the very heart of this organization that offers a significant help to newcomers so that they're able to fully integrate into their new neighbourhood.
NDG Community council is the winner of the 2018 Solidaires Mobilization.
The Solidaires Mobilization is awarded to a neighbourhood roundtable or group of agencies that have launched an outstanding collective action that has contributed to their community’s social development.
