In October 2007, Steven Roy walked into Santropol Roulant by chance. The young neuroscience student had no idea that he had found the community agency to which he would donate some 1,000 hours of volunteer work over the next two-and-a-half years.
During this first visit, Steven realized that Santropol needed a lot of help with its computer system. He quickly took charge of all computer-related aspects of the agency, replacing its network, finding affordable solutions for the purchase of new computers, and maintaining its email system. Better yet, he created a data base to help the agency enhance services to its 900 annual volunteers.
For the past six months, Steven has been developing a program to more effectively manage the needs of Santropol’s clientele. Every day, the agency delivers some 90 meals to seniors while accommodating their food restrictions and taking the most efficient delivery routes. This involves complex coordination! By consulting its various staff members, Steve makes sure that he has the necessary understanding of the agency to give it the best possible computer tools.
Curious and open, Steven is interested in everything and generously shares his knowledge with everyone who want to benefit from it. It goes without saying that his favourite T-shirt reads “I love seniors.”
Centraide has supported Santropol Roulant since 2002.
