Johanne Bélisle

April 2006

Johanne Bélisle is an exceptional woman who is committed on a daily basis to helping the women of her community. She joined the Women’s Centre of Montreal in 1987 as coordinator of front line services. Since becoming executive director in 1994, she has made an extremely active contribution to the Centre’s development.

With a B.A. in criminology and a master’s in social work, Johanne Bélisle is a skilled manager who has successfully developed front-line services for women dealing with incest or marital violence. Under her direction, the organization has received many prizes and honours. However, her greatest accomplishment is undoubtedly the renovation and enlargement of the Centre’s building. This $3.5-million project began to take concrete shape in June 2005. The new premises, and the establishment of a multiservice counter, will help the staff of the Women’s Centre pursue their work and respond to the needs of the thousands of women and families that seek the organization’s help.

Centraide has supported the Women’s Centre of Montreal since 1978.
Johanne Bélisle is the winner of the Gilles Cousineau Award 2006.
